Sao Paulo Fashion Week 2012: Agua de Coco
With the inspiration for her 2012 Summer collection being centered around the universe of art, swimwear designer Liana Thomaz and her team displayed immense creativity, bringing many conceptualized styles of beachwear fashion to the SPFW runway. Innovation in fabric (a gelatin-like material with a wet, translucent look), form (geometric cuts, unexpected silhouettes and details) and prints (digital printing technology of aerial beach photos) perfectly counterpoint what has come to be expected from Agua de Coco: a high attention to detail in swimwear execution - top quality craftsmanship with a flawless finish.
With the theme: "that art may be everyone's and may exist in everything," Agua de Coco 2012 offers Modern art's use of geometric lines in cuts and accessories. The aerial beach pictures taken by photographer Cassio Vasconcellos were also part of the inspiration and became the background print for some of the most eye-catching pieces.
Palette & Silhouettes
Vibrant blue/greens and pink/oranges presented in the latest colorblock fashion-craze form, contrasting nude shades and pops of color in ink abstracts or giant hibiscus in crayon-like drawings, guarantee a lively and colorful palette. Silhouettes came in slightly wider cuts than in seasons past, following a more international appeal (also seen with other Brazilian labels). Highly constructed tops and bottoms add to the allure of the pieces - this is swimwear that is sophisticated, trendy and decisively unique!
What Stood Out:
We loved the minimalistic look the pieces had with Agua de Coco's masterful use of angled lines and geometric elements. These draw the eyes and lend an instantaneous chic appeal to Agua de Coco's creations. The trees and beaches captured by the bird-eye's view of Cassio's lenses and turned into prints also stood out and will be a hit for the brand! Lastly, the amazingly creative cuts must also be mentioned as the label's never-ending efforts to be innovative in a field where the least amount of material can be used!
