Fashion Rio Summer 2012 happened last week and we were eagerly awaiting the fashion shows from some of our favorite designer swimwear labels to see what they have planned for next season's collections. Starting off with Salinas Swimwear, we will cover all of the swimwear shows from Fashion Rio (and then from the Sao Paulo Fashion Week - SPFW in a few weeks!) So, let's get to it!

Inspiration
Jacqueline de Biase, designer for Salinas, took inspiration for her 2012 Summer collection from songs that were themed-based on the city Rio de Janeiro. This combined with Salinas' notorious playful style and vibrant patterns, resulted in a collection that was relaxed, fun, flirty and very much something that any "carioca" (Rio-native) would wear!

Palette & Silhouettes
The palette was varied, with many shades of blue and greens, pink, orange, yellow, etc. Even the black & white combinations came in patterns that were wavy, geometric, with musical scores or any otherwise fun shape. The silhouettes were also very heterogeneous, with the traditional smaller Brazilian bottom cuts sharing almost equal space with the more conservative retro waist-high shorts and export-size bottoms. Bandeau tops also came in every style, straight-across, twisted, demitasse, shirred, etc.

What stood out: Overall, we really enjoyed the collection, but here are some of our favorite things: the watercolor-like colors and patterns (including the postcard images of Rio, music scores, etc); the idea of the "scarf" for swimwear - the collection had it as side-ties, as details on the bikinis, etc; and the relaxed, over-sized skirts and cover-ups, with uncomplicated and beautiful prints.
