The 2011 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition hit the stands yesterday, filled with some highly desirable swimwear (and sultry models in gorgeous locations)! In the industry, the SI launch is a big deal and so, swimwear designers from all corners of the planet send their collections months ahead of the shoots to the editors of the magazine, hoping to make it in the issue.

Considering how little fabric designers have to work when it comes to designing swimwear, it's amazing how much variety can be found in the swimwear fashion market. The Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition is famous for certain swimwear styles - more specifically, the sexy, girly, exotic and glam categories. Here are our picks from within those styles that SI is famous for:

CATEGORY: GLAMOROUS

Retro-style high-waist bottoms in classic colors lend a serious dose of glamour to Marysia Swim (left) and Michael Kors (right) swimsuits.
Off-white will always remit to luxury: Christina Liquori's bottom with added detail (left) and So de Mel's swimsuit ensemble (right) are chic and stylish in this timeless shade.

Debbie Wilson's mixes ruffles, lace and black to deliver a sexy two-piece (left). Beach Bunny does it again: peek-a-boo, see-through black one-piece with a deep-V cut that may be simply too hot for most mortals!

CATEGORY: GIRLY

Susan Holmes (left) and Dolce & Gabbana (right) paint their classic-cuts triangle suits with flowers in multi-colored, feminine hues.
Lace overlays could not be more feminine. Betsey Johnson (left) chooses a red, heart-shape bandeau with that style, while Juicy Couture chooses the classic cut in classic B&W.

CATEGORY: EXOTIC

Unique, different patterns and details are welcome in this category! Here, We Are Handsome's playful animal print one-piece (left) and Vanda Catucci's royal blue with the not-too-often seen straight bandeau (they are usually twisted, or heart-shaped), with encrusted beads and crystals (right).
DiNeila Brazil's two-piece is an interesting take on the high-waist fashion, with a modern touch of the crisscross detail on the side.
