Womens 2014 Spring Fashion Colors
Every year, Pantone - one of the leading authorities on color and a provider of color systems and technology - lists the colors that are going to be popular in the coming fashion season. When you're planning your spring wardrobe, Pantone is a great place to go to begin deciding what to buy, from shoes to dresses to swimwear to accessories.
Having the right mix of colors for the season can make you look stylish, feel chic and in touch with the latest fashion. The road to style supremacy begins with knowing and understanding the reasoning behind the spring color palette:
1. DAZZLING BLUE
Dazzling Blue heads the list on 2014 spring's color palette as a natural but bold color that can anchor the rest of your spring wardrobe. Dazzling Blue's presence at the top of the list is in part for sales reasons: the color is used on a variety of business logos, and was worn by Kate Middleton for her engagement to Prince William. The fact that many women already have several pieces in this color in their wardrobe is sure to be a crowd-pleaser in this cash-strapped economy, too!
2. VIOLET TULIP
Violet Tulip is a softer pastel color that sees quite a bit of use in spring weddings and other romantic occasions, making it a great complement to the stronger, more eye-catching colors that also top this list.
3. RADIANT ORCHID
Pantone's selection of the 2014 color of the year, Radiant Orchid, is considerably stronger than Violet Tulip, as it embraces itself as an essential purple. Kate Middleton appears on this list again as a fashion icon of the age, having worn a $100 Seraphine dress in Radiant Orchid for her first official portrait with Prince George - a dress that sold out within the two days following the photo's publishing!
4. CELOSIA ORANGE
Celosia orange is another strong but candy-like color appearing on this list. It provides a strong compliment to the many blues and purples that will appear in many fashion collections. The connection between Celosia Orange and actual oranges creates a fresh, healthy connotation that many people appreciate.
Freesia is strong yet floral, something we often associate with spring - the strength and warmth of the season as represented in the flowers blooming everywhere. Compared to other yellows, Freesia does not overwhelm you, but instead works to contrast and accentuate other colors.
Cayenne's reddish-orange is a good fit alongside Freesia and Celosia Orange in complementing more muted neutrals like Paloma or Sand. Unlike Freesia or Celosia Orange, however, Cayenne has the romantic connotations that Violet Tulip often enjoys, making it the perfect color for a season that is all about life, energy, and renewal.
7. PLACID BLUE
Spring's color palette has a reputation for drawing heavily from nature, and Placid Blue's inclusion on this list continues this tradition. Evoking the sky, Placid Blue is a great complement to and background for stronger colors, just as the sky is the background for so much of your life and the seasons.
Paloma is one of the essential neutrals on this list. Without solid neutrals to contrast with and balance against your more exciting colors, you can end up looking a bit too busy. Paloma is certain to find its way into most wardrobes and outfits this spring.
Sand is another neutral that works well in just about any context. The bright hues that naturally lend themselves to that spring feel can sometimes be a bit too exciting, and Sand provides just the muted contrast needed to bring some peace and class to an outfit.
No spring list would be complete without its green, and Hemlock fills that role beautifully. Strong enough to work on its own yet muted enough to complement the more vivid colors on this list, Hemlock is a traditional color that is reliable in its beauty.
The fact is that spring inspires certain themes and feelings in designers and in customers, and the romantic, energetic, yet peacefully muted colors you see on this list reflect and express how people feel about spring - the season of new life.
