Runway Report: Brazilian 2013 swimwear trends, as seen on Fashion Rio and Sao Paulo Fashion Week catwalks.
After a four-year hiatus from Brazilian runways, Poko Pano introduced its youthful 2013 Summer collection to Fashion Rio's audiences last Saturday.
The 12th edition of VOGUE ABEST, a special publication by VOGUE in collaboration with the Brazilian Association of Fashion Designers, brings an underwater editorial with some of the top designer swimwear labels from Brazil.
Rounding out the editorials from the January 2012 issue of VOGUE Brazil, model Marcelia Freesz looks upbeat in 90s-inspired outfits that mix designer swimwear with tough and colorful fabrics, producing an "urban beach" vibe.
In a edgy editorial, complete with fashion forward styling and deluxe swimwear, Marie Claire Brazil declared "Summer is White" electing the color a must for the upcoming season in the Southern part of the world. Marcelia Freesz models amazing designer swimwear for the lenses of Jacques Dequeker in the November 2011 issue of the magazine.

The cultural diversity of Brazil, especially those expressed in artisans' work and in the country's fauna variety, served as the theme of Paola Robba's 2011 collection. Inspired in part by photos in the book "Brazil - Portrait of a Great Country" (1959, by Ellen Bromfield Geld; Stefan Geyerhahn, Ed.), Paola created colorful, texture-rich patterns, complemented by delicate (less extravagant) hardware. Recently, we have been noticing a hot new trend in one-piece swimsuits all over the designer swimwear world: deep, V-cut, plunging necklines to sexy and dizzying heights! Virtually every designer has one in their collection this season and they are showing how deep V-necklines can really amp up the sexiness level of one-piece swimsuits. But beware: not to be confused with monokinis, which have the sides cut-out, these are glamorous full-blown one-pieces with plunging necklines. They turn out to be much sexier and sophisticated than a lot of monokinis, in our opinion!

A total of 190 photos grace the pages of this issue - with plenty more on SI's website. Here are our picks for favorite suits from the hard copy issue:
Are you feeling more Urban Chic or Jungle Pop? Not to worry, Poko Pano's 2010 collection has a swimsuit for every mood. For her 2010 collection entitled "Connection Paris-Sao Paulo-Paris", designer Paola Robba showcases a more urban facet, with her inspirations being luxurious interiors of French chateaus and their shimmery curtains with tassel details. The Eiffel Tower is also referenced in the knotting, crisscross patterns and B&W palette. Also for this collection, Sao Paulo architecture is reflected in the shapes and cutouts applied to the beachwear, as well in the shades of brown, red and white used.
Here are some photos of Leticia Birkheuer during the shoot of December edition's cover of "Corpo a Corpo" magazine. Leticia looks extremely sophisticated in the Gold Shine one-piece from the Poko Pano 2010 collection by Paola Robba. Check it out!
More and more we see high fashion swimwear designers contributing to charitable institutions - a move we definitely applaud! From donating a portion of sales from a specific suit to creating an entire line for charity purposes, these are some of the designers and their chosen institutions. So, next time you spend a little more on designer swimsuits, know that it is also for a good cause! And what other excuse does a girl need to being chic with a conscience?
